Cabernet Sauvignon 2001

L`Ecole No 41, Columbia Valley, Washington State, USA, Cabernet Sauvignon

Carolyn Evans-Hammond says 25 year old vines yield the fruit for this wine, which shows ripe, lush blackcurrant fruit and cashews on the nose followed by spice, red berries, nuts, and black pepper on the the palate. Gripping ripe tannins. Long length. Could use a bit of time in the bottle. Taste in a few years.

Carolyn Evans-Hammond's Score 87
    Cabernet Sauvignon 2001

Rosemount Estate, New South Wales, Australia, Cabernet Sauvignon

Carolyn Evans-Hammond says A bit more structure than a Shiraz but seemingly round and smooth because of residual sugar. This is not a bone dry wine though not noticably sweet. Some spicey notes and blackcurrant flavours. Easy to drink on its own.

Carolyn Evans-Hammond's Score 84

Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 2001

Majella, South Australia, Australia, Cabernet Sauvignon

Carolyn Evans-Hammond says A chocolately nose leads to hints of cloves, cinnamon, allspice. Ripe raspberry bittersweet chocolate on the palate breaks through to layers of spice. Zippy acidity keeps the wine fresh. Long. Excellent ripe tannins and good concentration. Still young. Taste again in five years for more complexity. Good value. LCBO price: $42.00

Carolyn Evans-Hammond's Score 93

Vina Errazuriz, Aconcagua Valley, Aconcagua, Chile, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot

Vintners Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 1999

Badger Mountain, Columbia Valley, Washington State, USA, Cabernet Sauvignon

Carolyn Evans-Hammond says Aromas of blackcurrant and spice lead to flavours of cinnamon, pepper, and.blackcurrant. This is a well balanced, concentrated wine with tight ripe tannins that will soften when served with a meat dish or cheese plate. Very well made.

Carolyn Evans-Hammond's Score 92
