Coudoulet de Beaucastel 2001

Beaucastel, Rhône, France, Mourvèdre, Grenache Noir, Syrah

Carolyn Evans-Hammond says Ripe bing cherry, raspberry, vanilla, bell pepper nose leads to a rich, velvety palate of deep, dark, intense flavours of black plum, black pepper, cassis, smoke, tobacco, coffee, dark chocolate, and on and on and on. It`s still young and will only get better. Very long peppery finish. Simply fabulous.

Carolyn Evans-Hammond's Score 96
    Nine Popes 2001

Charles Melton, South Australia, Australia, Shiraz, Grenache Noir, Mouvèdre

Carolyn Evans-Hammond says This Rhone lookalike is a chocolately treat with flavours of blackberry, raisins, and black pepper. Very smooth and well balanced. Ripe tannins. Drinking well now but will almost certainly improve. Expect the wine to develop spicy, gamey complexity in the years to come. LCBO price: $47

Carolyn Evans-Hammond's Score 84
