Pinot Gris 2006

Domaine Allimant-Laugner, Alsace, France, Pinot Gris

Carolyn Evans-Hammond says An outstanding version of Alsacian Pinot Gris, this intense wine laden with aromas and flavours of spiced peaches is tightly-knit and built to last. You could lay it down and let it improve for 10 years or get a serious pleasure dose now by uncorking it and serving it with Fettucine Alfredo with sautéed chicken and garlic. It’s rich, full of fruit, and finishes bone dry.

Carolyn Evans-Hammond's Score 92
    Tokay Pinot Gris 2002

Jean Becker, Alsace, France, Pinot Gris, Tokay

Carolyn Evans-Hammond says Beyond the earthy nose is a complex tantalising palate of fresh apricots, honey, peaches and a hint of lemon and lime. This wine is slightly off-dry but refreshingly crisp. The winemaker says this wine tends to appeal particularly to women. Excellent aperitif.

Carolyn Evans-Hammond's Score 86

Tokay Pinot Gris 2002

Léon Beyer, Alsace, France, Pinot Gris, Tokay

Carolyn Evans-Hammond says Earthy aromas follow through to the palate with earth and steel flavours coming through. This medium-bodied dry wine has lemon flavours on the finish that returns to a certain steeliness.

Carolyn Evans-Hammond's Score 78
    Zind One n/a

Domaine Zind Humbrecht, Alsace, France, Pinot Gris

Carolyn Evans-Hammond says Interesting, delicious stuff that will only improve. White pepper and peach nose followed by a rich spiced peach palate with refreshing acidity, full body, dense fruit and bone dry finish. Good length too. Excellent value at $35 at the LCBO

Carolyn Evans-Hammond's Score 92

Tokay Pinot Gris, Grand Cru Pfersigberg 2002

Jean-Luc Meyer, Alsace, France, Pinot Gris, Tokay

Carolyn Evans-Hammond says Spice and ripe peaches on the nose leads to a medium-sweet wine with balancing acidity. Flavours of ripe peach and a bit of ginger. Nice.

Carolyn Evans-Hammond's Score 83
